Plasma, which takes up most of the parts in this universe, has been unable to utilize for long time of human history. However short the history of use is, plasma is widely researched and developed nowadays - in many fields, from nuclear fusion, the future energy source, to plasma applications, such as ion beam source. Plasma & Ion beam laboratory, located at building 30, first floor, Seoul National University, is studying attractive area of plasma and nuclear fusion. Up to now, we developed plasma density diagnostics device utilizing millimeter wave and laser for KSTAR, Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research. We are building a spherical torus, an innovative concept of fusion experimental reactor, to research on various important topics of nuclear fusion, along with control methods to confine high temperature, high density fusion plasma more efficiently. Moreover, in applicatory research on accelerator injector and neutral beam injector for fusion reactor, we construct hydrogen ion source, mass-current helicon ion source for NBI, focused ion beam source for nano-scale material process/analysis, and many other ion sources. Our work extends to pulsed systems, namely arc discharge in liquid and plasma guns. Since 2008, we have been designated as Engineering Research Center by Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Korea, and playing a central role in nuclear fusion plasma research and education at Seoul National University under the name of Center for Advanced Research in Fusion Reactor Engineering.
ÇöóÁ ¹× ¾çÀÚºö °øÇÐ ¿¬±¸½Ç - NUPLEX ¿ìÁÖÀÇ ´ëºÎºÐÀ» Â÷ÁöÇÏ´Â ÇöóÁ(plasma)¸¦ Àΰ£ÀÌ Àû±ØÀûÀ¸·Î Ȱ¿ëÇÏ°Ô µÈ ±â°£Àº ±×¸® ±æÁö ¾Ê´Ù. ÇÏÁö¸¸ »ó´ëÀûÀ¸·Î ªÀº ¿ª»ç¿¡µµ ºÒ±¸ÇÏ°í ¹Ì·¡ ¿¡³ÊÁö¿øÀÎ ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ¿¬±¸¿Í ÇöóÁ À̿ ºö ÀÀ¿ë¿¬±¸¸¦ Áß½ÉÀ¸·Î ¼ö¸¹Àº ºÐ¾ßÀÇ ¿¬±¸°³¹ßÀÌ È°¹ßÈ÷ ÁøÇàµÇ°í ÀÖ´Ù. ¼¿ï´ëÇб³ 30µ¿ 1Ãþ¿¡ À§Ä¡ÇÑ ÇöóÁ ¹× ¾çÀÚºö °øÇבּ¸½Ç (NUPLEX) Àº ÇöóÁ ¹× ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ°ú °ü·ÃµÈ Èï¹Ì·Î¿î ºÐ¾ß¸¦ ޱ¸Çϰí ÀÖ´Ù. º» ¿¬±¸½Ç¿¡¼´Â ÇöÀç º¸´Ù Çõ½ÅÀûÀÎ °³³äÀÇ ±âÃÊ ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ ½ÇÇè ÀåÄ¡·Î ¼ÒÇü ±¸Çü Åä·¯½º¸¦ ¼³°è Á¦ÀÛ Áß¿¡ ÀÖÀ¸¸ç, À̸¦ ÅëÇÏ¿© ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ°ú °ü·ÃµÈ ´Ù¾çÇÑ ÇÙ½É ¿¬±¸¸¦ ¼öÇàÇÒ ¿¹Á¤ÀÌ´Ù. ÀÌ·± ¿¬±¸¸¦ À§ÇÏ¿© ÇöÀç ¿îÇà ÁßÀÎ KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research)ÀÇ ¹Ð¸®¹ÌÅÍ ¿þÀ̺ê(milimeter wave)¿Í ·¹ÀÌÀú(laser)¸¦ ÀÌ¿ëÇÑ ÇöóÁ ¹Ðµµ Áø´Ü ÀåÄ¡¸¦ °³¹ßÇÏ¿´À¸¸ç, °í¿Â °í¹ÐµµÀÇ ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ ÇöóÁ¸¦ È¿°úÀûÀ¸·Î °¡µÎ¾î ¿îÀüÇϱâ À§ÇÑ Á¦¾î ¿¬±¸ ¶ÇÇÑ ¼öÇàÇϰí ÀÖ´Ù. ¶ÇÇÑ ´ëÇü °¡¼Ó±âÀÇ ÀÎÁ§ÅÍ (accelerator injector) ³ª ÇÙÀ¶ÇÕ·ÎÀÇ Áß¼ºÀÔÀÚ °¡¿ÀåÄ¡ÀÇ ÀÔ»ç±â (NBI, neutral beam injector) ¿¡ Ȱ¿ëµÉ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â ¼ö¼Ò À½À̿¿ø, Áß¼ºÀÚ ¹ß»ý±â¿ë ´ëÀü·ù Ç︮ÄÜ À̿¿ø, ³ª³ë (nano) Å©±âÀÇ Àç·á °¡°ø ¹× ºÐ¼®¿¡ Àû¿ëÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â Áý¼ÓÀ̿ºö (FIB, focused ion beam) À̿¿ø, µî ¿©·¯ ÀÀ¿ë ºÐ¾ßÀÇ ¿ä±¸ Ư¼º¿¡ µû¶ó ´Ù¾çÇÑ ÇüÅÂÀÇ À̿¿øÀ» ¿¬±¸ ¹× °³¹ß Áß¿¡ ÀÖ´Ù. ÇÑÆí À§¿¡¼ ¾ð±ÞÇÑ ¿©·¯ ÇöóÁ °ü·Ã ¿¬±¸ ¿Ü¿¡ ¼öÇàÇϰí ÀÖ´Â ½ÇÇèÀ¸·Î´Â ÆÞ½ºÇü ÀåÄ¡¸¦ ÀÌ¿ëÇÑ ½ÇÇèÀÌ ÀÖ´Ù. ¹°¼Ó¿¡¼ÀÇ ¾ÆÅ© ¹æÀü°ú ÇöóÁ °ÇÀº ÀÌ ºÐ¾ßÀÇ ¼¼ºÎ ¿¬±¸ ³»¿ëµéÀÌ´Ù.
